Cal & Willow
Cal & Willow was an independent study project I did with Clara Lieu my junior year while attending the Rhode Island School of Design. For one semester I undertook the process of creating concept art, character sheets, and the opening prologue chapter of the world of Cal & Willow. The story follows the titular characters: Cal, a tree nymph mobile by grace of her soul-tree being a small bonsai she can carry everywhere; and Willow, a human girl and writer trying to find herself after tragedy strikes her family. Their soul-searching roadtrip leads them to become embroiled in a power struggle between a witch and the goddess of the moon. This comic never ended up being made into a whole graphic novel because I moved on to other projects, but it has a fond place in my heart as a moment of huge growth as a creator of visual narrative.
